October 11Newsletter.

Hi I hope you are well and had a good summer (singing in the rain!)

Hers a quick round up of the latest news

Windows 8

Just when Windows 7 has only been out for just over a year, Microsoft have announced the release of the beta (test) version of their next operating system, Windows 8, due for release by the end of 2012.

It has been designed especially for the increasingly popular Touch Screen technology, although it can of course be used with a normal keyboard and mouse.

To see a video of the pre release version, click on the link below. It is sooo cool:

Speaking of touch screen technology, more and more laptops and all in one PCs are using this. There is now a good selection of touch screen laptops available.

In my experience, most people at the moment still feel more comfortable using a conventional keyboard and mouse. Click here to see a selection of the latest touch screen laptops

Google +

This week, Google have announced their Social Networking site, Google +, is now available to the general public.

To be honest, I’ve only just joined it but it looks very interesting to anyone who is into Facebook or Twitter. As with everything with Google, the beauty is in the simplicity and ease of use. Already in the first few weeks it has attracted 10 million users!! If you would like to know more then I’ll give it a full review in next months newsletter, but if you can’t wait until then, click the link below to see the BBC news article about it and watch the video clip. Looks really interesting.

Hotmail Users

Serious problem: A few of my customers have recently had their Hotmail account hacked into. It is not uncommon for someone’s Hotmail email account to be accessed by an outsider, and have spam emails sent out in their name to everyone in their address book. The sent message looks something like this:

...Visit this site please! I promise it will be interesting! http://jadecom.net/com.friend.php?offriend=61h3

Some of the links direct you to adult sites or other undesirable websites.

Of course the hotmail account holder knows nothing about these emails being sent out in their name, until they start getting replies saying ‘what the hell was that email you sent me?’

I don’t know how these Hotmail account are able to be hacked, but the fact is that they are.

If you are a Hotmail user, then you can protect your account by immediately changing your Hotmail password and also your security question.

I know it’s a pain but you should do this regularly, say once a month.

Of course you could always open a different email account with Yahoo or Gmail, which although they very rarely are affected by the same problem, are much more secure than Hotmail.

If you choose to go with a new email address like Gmail, then you should close the Hotmail email to prevent any further spam being sent out in your name.

To do this click on the link below.

If you need any help doing this, then please call or email me.

Gift Vouchers

Sorry to break the news to you, but we are rapidly approaching the end of the year again.

Thinking about what you can buy family or friends? How about giving them….. ME!

I have PC Basics gift vouchers which you can give to loved ones, which will give them an hour of my time for either tuition or technical service (tune up etc).

They will love you forever!

The cost is reduced from £50 to just £40 until the end of October.

Call or email me for further details.

And finally….

Without doubt, my favourite website of the year:

Go to http://uk.akinator.com/

Then click on the word Play.

Simply think of any person, alive or dead, real or not real, and answer the questions the Akinotor asks, and after a few questions and answers, it will tell you who you are thinking of. I love it. Enjoy.

That’s it for this month. Happy New Year to all my Jewish clients.
