June 2010 Newsletter

Hi, I hope that you are keeping fit and well and enjoying the long summer evenings again. Isn’t it so nice that it is still light at 9pm.

Here’s a round up of this month’s news.

My New Dell Computer.

I’m still in mourning for my lovely Dell XP computer, which died last month. It had been running perfectly, then one morning, just refused to boot up and sounded as if it was going to take off. To cut a very long story short, my top two technicians couldn’t fix it. So I decided to buy a new computer for myself. Bear in mind that I come across virtually every make and model in my line of work. I still favour Dell computers, for excellent value for money, reliability and good after sales service.

So after much research, I bought a new Dell Inspiron 560 desktop with 20” monitor for £450.00 incl VAT. IT IS FABTASTIC! I’m so pleased with it. It runs on Windows 7, which is a fast, easy to use operating system. It has 4Gb RAM and Intel Dual Core processor, so it is really fast and reacts instantly to all commands. In short, it is a dream to use, and I would highly recommend it for anyone thinking of buying a new system.

Of course, you could spend more money and get a higher specification computer, but I’m so impressed with this model, I think it would more than satisfy most people’s computer needs, so you don’t need to spend more.

If you would like any help or advice on upgrading your system, please call or email me.

Latest Scam

You must be extra vigilant now, both on the internet, as well as on the telephone.

I get around 3 or 4 email every week which are blatantly bogus scams. The most common I get is from a Nigerian or African bank manager, who tells me that he has millions of dollars stuck in a dead account, and he wants to transfer it into my UK bank account, and split the proceeds. All I need to do is supply him with my bank details so he can deposit the funds in there. Of course this is an obvious scam, but you would be surprised how many people fall for it, and give their bank details.

The latest is from the Inland Revenue telling you that you are entitled to a £700 tax refund. Just tell them your bank details to get your refund. Yeh, right!!!

However, the most audacious scam has just started in the last few weeks. I have had three of my lovely, usually intelligent customers, who have fallen for this one. (You know who you are!!!)

They receive a phone call that purports to be from Microsoft directly, saying they have detected that there is a major security failing in your computer and your PC may have been hacked into, and is unsecure. They offer to fix this problem over the internet right now, free of charge.  How nice are they!

So, you follow their instructions and allow them to access your computer over the internet. They start “Repairing” your computer for you. Once they have finished, they say, all done, your computer is now fixed.

However, you have now allowed them to access your computer whenever they fancy. So if you are using bank or credit card details over the internet, they can see everything. You may as well just give them all your bank and credit card security details, all your money, your first born child, and all your life.

MICROSOFT ARE NEVER EVER EVER EVER GOING TO CALL YOU ON THE PHONE TO SAY THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH YOUR COMPUTER!!!!!!!!!!

I will NOT embarrass these three customers by making their names public, but I guarantee they are blushing now!

Should you get a phone call from Microsoft saying they have detected a problem with your computer, just say two words to them. The second one is OFF!!!

Slow Computer?

I don’t think I know any computer user who wouldn’t like their computer to run a bit faster than it is now. The majority of my customers complain that either their computer is running slowly, or their Internet is not running fast enough.

Well, you have 3 options:

  1. Do nothing and live with it.
  2. Let me come and service the computer. I will check to make sure it is running to its best ability. It may be that it requires extra RAM memory to get it performing to its peak. It may have viruses or other malware hiding in it, and slowing the whole thing down. You will be amazed at the difference a tune up and service can make.
  3. Invest in a lovely new computer. Starting from around £400 upwards, you can buy a superb, latest state of the art system. I would of course, be happy to come and set it all up for you, copying all your files and data from the old computer, onto the new one. Go on… treat yourself. Spend the grandchildren’s inheritance! They won’t mind!

If you would like me to come and service your computer, please call or email me to fix a convenient  time.

Wireless Range Extenders

If you have a wireless broadband network at home or in the office, you must read about this fantastic new product that I've come across. It is a wireless range extender, which simply boosts the broadband signal so that it gives full signal strength, even in the largest of houses and offices.

Many of my customers have a larger than average property, or sometimes would like to use their laptops in the garden. At present, you are governed by the signal strength of your router, which limits how far you can get a good connection in or out your home or office.

I have recently started to fit Wireless Range Extenders for a number of my customers.

They are fantastic!

Even in the largest of properties, it will give you full signal strength anywhere in your house, or even into your back garden. As we are coming into the summer months, that may be of interest to you.

Very large properties may need a second or third unit fitted, but in most large houses, one should make a huge difference.

At a cost of less than £95 supplied and installed, it could make a significant improvement to your wireless broadband coverage at home or office.

If you would like more information, or simply to say, lets do it, please call or email me.

Kleeneze

As you may know, Michele & I, have been distributors for the Kleeneze catalogue, for many years now. For those who don’t know what this is, the Kleeneze catalogue offers hundreds of fantastic products, from Homecare, to Health & Beauty, Gifts Ideas and now a new Cookery catalogue.

I’ve only just discovered recently how good their newly updated website is. They’ve spend a fortune getting it updated and it is really impressive.

You are welcome to browse through the catalogues online. www.kleeneze.co.uk and click on the catalogue links on the right hand side. Take a look at the Main Catalogue then click on the arrow to the right of the front cover, to browse through each page.

Should you decide to place an order, just make a note of the product numbers and descriptions, and send me an email with your order. Any orders you place with me will get you a 10% discount, plus the pleasure of my company when I come to deliver it to you.

Also, they offer a fantastic Business Opportunity, for people over 18, who would like to earn money, either on a part time basis, or to earn much higher income by becoming a team leader, which is what we do.

This may suit older students who would like to earn money over the summer holidays, or mums with time on their hands while the kids are at school, or anyone who is finding the Credit Crunch has put a strain on their finances.

Have a look around the Kleeneze website, and if you would like any further information regarding the products, or the business opportunity, please do not hesitate to come back to me.

And Finally……

Guess what, its 3D Image time again. Can you spot the image hidden in this picture?
First correct answer wins something even better than an Apple IPad.. an Apple!

That’s it for this month. I hope you enjoy the summer while it lasts. Nearly Christmas again!!
