October ’17 Newsletter

Goodbye summer, hello 6 months of cold and darkness. I hope you are fit and well.

Here’s a roundup of the latest news from the world of IT.

Support for Iphones and Ipads.

Apple have just release their IOS 11 operating system, which is available to all customers who use a recent IPhone or Ipad.

One of the advantages of having this update is that now, for the first time, it is now possible to use TeamViewer on an Apple mobile device.

This means that I can now offer Remote Technical Support for IPhones and IPads.

I've tried it out and it actually works!

How fantastic is that??

So if you have an IPhone or Ipad and you need technical help, I can now do this remotely, without having to come over to you. I can usually do this the same day, and not have to charge you for a visit.

Most of my customers already use my technical support service for their computers, so for existing customers, I will add the Apple Support service for an additional £30 per year.

If you do not have my service yet, then of course you are welcome to join.

  The annual costs are:

Remote technical support for 1 PC or laptop:                              £75.00 (+£30 for Apple mobile support)

Each additional PC:                                                                        £25.00

Support for Apple Mobile devices only (Not computers)             £50.00

Amazon Fire

How you fancy getting a brand new mini Ipad for less than £50?? Well there’s good news and bad news.

The bad news is that you can’t. But the good news is that you can now get an Amazon Fire tablet at £49.99, which is almost as good. I just bought one as my old Kindle e-reader suddenly died after many years of faithful service. So I needed a new Kindle, and decided to get the Fire.

It’s just fantastic and amazing value for money. If you only used it as a book reader, that would be good enough. But it does almost as much as an Apple Ipad, which start from about £400. You can get your emails, Internet, pictures, music, TV & movies, and thousands of Apps. It has a long battery life and an expandable memory by using micro memory cards. I’m sooo impressed.

Admittedly, the built in camera is not as good as the Apple Ipad, and it’s not quite as fast, but at less than 50 quid, you really can’t go wrong. Highly recommended.

If you need any help or advice about this please call or email me.

New Iphone 8

Apple has just released the Iphone 8 and 8Plus. By all accounts, as you would expect, it’s just a superb piece of technology, which just gets better and better.

You can see that it has edge to edge screen, so there is no longer a Home button at the bottom. It’s slimmer than previous versions and has a better longer battery life. However, their all singing and dancing Iphone 8X will be available here from early November.

If you can afford to wait and are prepared to pay top money for it, then that’s the one to have. It’s without doubt, the best smartphone on the market, with many new features such as wireless charging and facial recognition so you no longer need to enter passwords. But with a price tag starting at £1,000 and going up to £1,150 for the 256Gb version, it’s not going to be affordable to everyone.

I haven’t had a chance to play with it yet, but I’ll be able to give a full review in my next newsletter in November.

Tune up and Spring Clean

Is your computer running too slowly or is it just not performing as well as it used to? The answer is probably YES.

This could be a variety of reasons, but most likely, it’s full of clutter and lots of stuff that needs to be cleaned up, to restore it to its former glory.

Over the months and years, your PC will bring in so many things, such as temp and temporary internet files, cookies, Windows updates, System restore points etc. which over a period of time will slow the whole thing down and use up a lot of valuable disk space.

For a fixed fee of £60, I would come to you and give it a full 12,000 mile service and tune up, and get rid of all the clutter and things that could be slowing it down.

Of course it could be that your trusty old beast is reaching the end of its useful life, so maybe it’s time to think about getting a new system, in which case, we could talk about your options.

I would also check your computer’s security and that your backups are being done properly.

To fix a date, just call or email me.

And finally….

Where’s the Badger????

Simple question, where’s the badger in this picture? When you get fed up with searching, scroll down and I’ll put you out of your misery.

That’s it for this month, and remember I’m always here if you need me.
